[01] The Story

Set in the mountains of Kyoto, the Stillness Pavilion is a modern homage to traditional tea houses. The structure utilizes traditional timber-framing techniques without metal joinery, relying entirely on Japanese craftsmanship. It serves as a rental retreat for meditation and tea ceremonies.

The Challenge

Building a structure that withstands harsh mountain humidity while maintaining an open, wall-less aesthetic.

The Solution

Used locally-sourced treated Cypress wood and custom sliding shoji screens with high-performance glass to protect against rain while offering 360-degree nature views.
